Originally conceived as a resort community for Mountain Glen Golf Club, the Community of Mountain Glen in Avery County is well-located to take advantage of the many attractions of the High Country. Within 15 to 20 minutes are Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Sugar Mountain Resort, Beech Mountain Resort, the Blue Ridge Parkway, where there are a wide variety of hiking trials, and much more.
We are fortunate to be located near both Lees McRae College and Appalachian State University that offer many cultural events encompassing the performing arts and visual arts. Western North Carolina has a rich musical heritage, and options to listen to live music are everywhere. There are casual and fine dining restaurants in the area, as well as wineries and breweries. A bit of trivia about Avery County: we have more golf courses (nine) than traffic lights (six).
Opportunities abound for entertaining children of all ages. The $3 million dollar Dive-In public swimming pool and water park in Newland being one of the newest area attractions along with the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster. There are lots of options for outdoor activities including zip line tours, boat rentals, rafting, tubing, fishing, gem mining, and more.
